Get in Chongqing by boat
Chongqing is a major trading port on the upper Yangtze River. The Jialing and Minjiang are the two major rivers converging into the Yangtze River. Upon completion of the Three Gorges Dam project, vessels of up to 20,000 tons will be able to ship directly to the Chaotianmen Docks at high tide. In addition, the municipality is planning to develop its biggest deep-water berths at the Changshou Port. About 10 years ago traveling by water was the first choice for a large number of people to get in and away from the city. Most freeways and highways were not well developed at that time and it was widely considered unwise wasting hours feeling bored and even sick on the road while the alternative could be having fun with your family or friends on water. Although it?s not likely to have the good old days back with the rapid developed of roads at all levels, sometimes it can be fairly heart-warming to just board a ship and feel the wind blowing in our hair once again. You can of course save a great deal traveling this way. The docks for passengers are located at Chao Tian Men, where Jialing and the Yangtze River converge. Chao Tian Men is also the ideal starting point for the Three Gorges tours.
