Day 01: Arrival in Lhasa
Arrive in Lhasa on your own arrangement. On arrival you will be met by the local guide and transferred to your hotel. Balance off the day free to relax and acclimatize to the altitude.
Lhasa in Tibetan means "Place of the Gods", the residence of the Dalai Lama. Life is unhurried, its people jovial and yet remaining staunchly independent.
Day 02: Lhasa
Today we will visit the Jokhang Temple, situated in the heart of Old Lhasa, it houses Tibet's most precious religious relic, a golden Shakyamuni Buddha which was brought as a gift by the Chinese Princess Wen Cheng on the occasion of her wedding to the Tibetan King, Songtsen Gompo. Surrounding the Jokhang Temple is the bustling Barkhor Market place which is the religious and social focus of Lhasa.
Later in the day visit the Potala Palace, this legendary palace built atop a single hill is synonymous with Tibet by the first foremost king Songtsen Gompa. It was expanded to its present structure during the 17th century by the 5th Dalai Lama. This 13 story 1000 room citadel served as the headquarters of the former "church-state" of the Tibet and was home to successive Dalai Lamas, who from the latter half of the 18th century used it as their winter palace.
Day 03: Lhasa
In the morning we will drive to Drepung Monastery, 8 Kilometers west of Lhasa - said to be the largest monastery in the world, housing over 10,000 monks. It was founded in 1416 by the disciple of Je Tsonkhapa, founder of the Yellow Hat Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The second, third and fourth Dalai Lamas lived and were entombed here.
Visit the Sera Monastery, 5 Kilometers north of Lhasa, Sera setting is one of Lhasa's prettiest monasteries. Once a community of more than 5,000 monks resided here and was virtually extinguished by the Chinese. The restored monastery sits below the brow of hill on which tsongkhapa built a hermitage and spent several years mediating. One of the monks disciples began building Sera in 1419, completing it a few years later.
Day 04: Lhasa-Shigatse
Today you will visit Yomdrok Lake, Tashilunpo Monastery.
Yomdrok Lake(Yamzhog Yumco) covers an area of 678-square kilometers, at 4,441 meters above sea level. It is one of three holy lakes, the others being Namtso and Mampang Yumco. It is the largest inland lake at the northern foot of the Himalayas. Yamzhog means upper pastureland and 'co' mans Lake in Tibetan. When overlooking the Yamzhog Yumco Lake, one might envision a gigantic sapphire within surrounding mountains.
Tashihungpo monastery:As an important cultural relic protection site,the Tashilhungpo Monastery is located on the southern slope of the Nyimari Mountain northwest of the city of Xigaze.It is the largest monastery of the Gelug Sect in western Tibet,and the main stage where generations of the Panchen Lama carried out religious and political activities.It is one of the four main monasteries in Tibet with the other three in Lhasa.
Day 05: Shigatse-Tsedang
Visit Yumbulagang Palace, Trandruk Monastery
Yumbulagang Palace:Towering at the summit of Mt. Tashitseri, the east bank of Yarlung River, Yumbulhakang is the first palace as well as one of the earliest construction in Tibet, therefore you could have a bird's eye view of the whole beautiful Yarlung Valley.
Trandruk Monastery
(Changzhug Monastery):Changzhug Monastery is one of the earliest Buddhist Temples in Tibetan history. Built in 641 A.D, it is said that King Songtsan Gampo established the temple to suppress the ogress in order to prosper his kingdom, and later it became the winter palace of the King and Princess Wencheng in Tsedang. It contains the precious relics the Pear Tangkha, which, 2 meters in length, 1.2 meters in breadth, is made of 29026 pears and different precious stone by Naidong during the reign of Pamodrupa Kingdom.
Day 06: Departure
You will be picked up from your hotel in time to connect your flight to your next destination.
