The fifth gighest peak, the Makaru Mountain is 8,463 meters above sea level and its straight distance to Mt. Oomolangma is 24 kilometers. Its northern slope is in China while the southern slope in Nepal. The mountain has five ridges. The weifeng Peak on the southeast ridge is the higheast, being 8,010 meters above sea level. In the valleys and slopes are glaciers. Snowslides or icefalls always happen in the craks of the saw-shaped cliffs.
Lying in the middle section of the Himaloyas at 87.l¡ãE and 27.9¡ãN, Makaru ranks fifth among the highest peaks in the world. It has an altitude of 8465 meters while its northwest side, as the crow flies, is 24 kilometers away from Qomolangma. The Northwest Ridge and the Southeast Ridge divide Makaru into two sides, the north and the south, with the former in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China and the latter in the Kingdom of Nepal. Makaru owns five major ridges, 5 respectively classified in to the Northwest Ridge, the Southwest Ridge, the Northeast Ridge, the Southeast Ridge and the North Ridge. The peak on the North Ridge is named Qomolanso and that on the Northwest Ridge Makaru 2, their altitude being 7816 meters and 7640 meters. The peak on the Southeast Ridge is at an altitude of 8010 meters, a bit higher than others.
The recommended itinerary: The coverage from New Tingri to Yupar Town via Parco is 120 kilometers. Going southward along the Ganma Zangbo Valley, you need to take a yak from Yupar to Shajitang mountaineering camp on the northeast foot of Makaru Mountain with an elevation of 3,600 meters. The extensive camp has enough water sources.
